Orbea Women's Specific Design -

Orbea has a long history of making high-end bikes to fit a wide range of body types. We have beautiful bikes for the tiny climbers of the Pyrenees as well as for the lanky triathlon powerhouses of the Ironman circuit. For each body type, we believe that there is a specific geometry that makes a bike go faster, corner on a rail and climb like an angel. We have applied this same design philosophy to our designs for women, at the core of which is our Dama geometry.

It wasn’t too long ago (2000 to be exact), when a woman who wanted a performance road bike had few options. Sure, there were women’s bikes out there, but they were designed for a different type of rider. The go-fast girl - the one with a steely glint in her eye, who liked making people hurt on group rides - she had no place to turn for a real racing bike. It is for this woman that we designed the Dama geometry bicycles in 2001.

Dama geometry consists of more than shorter top tubes and marketing hype. Every single angle of every frame size is designed to contribute to one of the smoothest, fastest, most stable performance bikes in the world. Our size 49 road bike is a perfect example of the care with which the Dama geometry was developed. Designed to be the smallest available production race bike made with 700c wheels, the size 49 was created with utmost attention to front-center measurements and headtube angles. The result is a real petit racing bike – a first in women’s bike design.

Not satisfied with only our own opinions, in 2001 we began sponsoring the best women racers in the world. For six years, our Dama geometry has been raced by Olympians, National Champions and the best women’s racing teams in the world. Nothing emphasizes the success of our Dama design more than seeing events won on Orbea Dama bicycles, year after year.

In addition to being awe-inspiring athletes, the feedback and opinions of our elite female racers has made them into de-facto designers at Orbea. Their ideas have proven as valuable as the technical expertise provided by Miriam Bengotxea, our engineer. Together, these women are a dream-team of designers and product testers and have helped us to hone and expand the Dama range into what it is today.

The current Dama line consists of 4 bikes (3 road frames and one mountain frame): the flagship Diva, the fun and precise Aqua Dama and the trail demon mountain bike, D’Ella. The entire line is available with either stock builds or Made to Order, built exactly the way you want.
